Additional Information about Robbinsdale Rehab and Care Center

There was a story in the Star and Tribune newspaper dated December 11, 2009 which reported that state regulators have cut off Medicare and Medicaid funding for all new patients at Robbinsdale Rehab and Care Center. The facilility must fix the problems by January 7, 2010 or regulators will extend the funding ban to all patients.

According to the story, the state inspectors have visited the facility three times since a July
survey revealed deficienceis, including failing to respond to signs of distress in two residents who later died. The facility was fined $3000 and denied federal approval for imposing and additional $24,300.00 in fines for six days in which residents were in immediate jeopardy of being harmed by medication errors.

The Star and Tribune article details a history of violations at the facility. According to the story, Robbinsdale Rehab has far more violations that most Minnesota facilities, which were cited for an average of 10 deficiciencies in 2008. The state inspectors found 19 violations at Robbinsdale Rehab in 2007, 25 in 2008 and 27 so far in 2009. Some of the 2009 violations harmed residents according to the inspectors.
